The end of August marks the end of fundraising for the 2016 Relay for Life of Greene County.
Relay chair Peg Raney reports the 2016 Relay, held April 23 at Greene County Community Center, grossed $41,903.75.
In-kind donations totaled $5,750, allowing the Relay to post a fundraising total of $41,563.94. “With no cost for T-shirts, printing, advertising, use of the Community Center and food for the barbecue, all the money raised can go directly to the American Cancer Society for research and services benefitting all of the people dealing with cancer,” Raney said. “We truly appreciate all the in-kind donations.”
The 13 teams registered for the Relay for Life raised a total of $17,422.75. The top five teams were Home State Bank Team Sharon Towers, $5,618; BPO Does, $2,445; NHS Stompers, $2,390.50; Holy Walkamolies, $1,697; and Team Velda’s Varieties, $1,160.
The silent auction continues to grow. The 2016 auction raised a record $5,924.
Sponsorships added $12,250, the Color Out Cancer 5K run/walk raised $2,597, luminaria sales netted $1,075, the community barbecue raised $1,462, and general donations added another $1,200.
The 2017 Relay for Life of Greene County will be Saturday, April 22, at the Greene County Community Center. “We encourage people to start thinking about organizing a team or getting involved in our local committee,” Raney said.
